The Palms Hotel Isle of Palms Review

The Palms Hotel is one of the few operations of its kind for the Isle of Palms area. There are other beachfront hotels on the Isle of Palms but only precious few for those who seek the convenience of a hotel style vacation. An informal, comfortable hotel with 68 guestrooms or suites, the hotel offers 18 full oceanfront rooms with a full balcony upon which to watch the sunrise in the morning and enjoy complimentary, in room, coffee. Some 41 rooms offer a partial ocean view with a smaller balcony and 9 rooms provide balconies with a view of the I.O.P strip.

Each guestroom and suite offers all the expected comforts including either two full or a king bed, complimentary cable television, wireless Internet, multi-line phone with voicemail, free local calling, coffee and tea maker, refrigerator and microwave, hair dryer, ironing equipment and bathroom extras. Complimentary continental breakfast at the Palms is also offered for every guest and served in the breakfast café. The breakfast goes beyond the usual continental cold pastry fair with eggs, sausage, waffles, biscuits and gravy in addition to other offerings. Access to the rooftop pool is available for all guests and provides an intimate setting for those who choose not to wait for the tide to come in. Additional hotel conveniences provide off street parking, (for a nominal fee, in season) 100% non-smoking environment and laundry valet service.

Rooms are decorated with a tropical flair, which is to be expected of a hotel bearing the name "The Palms" and is located directly on one of South Carolina's most favored and pristine beaches. Suites come standard with a pullout sofa as well as kitchen accoutrement (upon request) for family accommodations. Dining areas and lobby also lend an air of tropical living with rattan chairs, green palm plants and ocean accents.

Being a beach hotel there is a variety of beach type activities for recreation available that can be arranged in a hotel package for you. The hotel offers golfing and tennis through the renowned Wild Dunes Resort, also located on the Isle of Palms. In addition, harbor tours and fishing excursion which depart from the nearby marina. Other recreation or beach activities that might interest guests such as basketball courts, tennis, a kid's center with activities, softball and soccer fields and a yoga studio are offered by the Isle of Palms Recreation Center. Powerboats, parasailing equipment and deep-sea fishing excursions, kayaks, sailboats, windsurfing, etc. can be rented be or arranged by individual retail outfits located on and around the strip.

Nightlife offers a couple of nearby bars and restaurants that have outdoor decks and live music that might be anything from retro-rock to beach music or blues to calypso. These establishments add so much to the beach experience as one is awash in the salty ocean breeze and entertained by the cool sounds of the live band drifting on those breezes. Cocktails and food can be enjoyed in this bohemian atmosphere of beach combers, island dwellers and vacationers all seeking to let down their hair and shed the stress of everyday life. Views from these establishments also provide panoramic scope of the ocean and beach activity alike. Wild Dunes Resort, which is just a 5-minute drive, also has several restaurants and lounges from which to choose for a more upscale menu.
