"Hints, Tips & Reviews" Anchorage Inn Charleston SC

Anchorage Inn Hotel Review

The building in which the Anchorage Inn is located at 26 Vendue Range, carries a history rife with fortunes being made and lost in the 1800s as a once a bustling cotton warehouse in the old days of the south. Following the decline of the southern cotton industry, the warehouse was left empty for some time until the building was given new albeit short-lived identity as a brokerage firm in the 1950s. Another renaissance for the structure came in 1991 when the doors reopened as the Anchorage Inn and the building was transformed in its most recent renovation in 2006 to update the intimate, stately venue for guests who prefer to anchor in the hub of Charleston's activity.

The reception area indicates a most hearty welcome to guests with its rich, open stairway adorned with sturdy wooden handrail and loft guard railing. The scent of the Inn's signature fresh cut, diamondgazer lilies greet visitors as they enter the Anchorage Inn welcoming them to their temporary safe harbor. Solid wooden floors and tasteful wood paneling further the sensation that one is sheltered in a building that has seen centuries of history and weathered all nature has dealt through those centuries. The very name of the Anchorage Inn, which is just steps away from the waterfront, gives meaning that seafaring folk would come into harbor and drop anchor to breath relief that they were safely in port.

Offering guests 19 attractive rooms the Anchorage Inn provides practicality of modern reproduction period furniture while still creating an atmosphere and sentiment reminiscent of a bygone era. Rooms are comfortably appointed with king or queen beds, all the standard amenities and some extras to be enjoyed. A business center with computer equipment is available.

Continental breakfast in the dining room is complimentary as are wine and cheese in the evenings or sherry if you prefer. Often times a sense of community is developed as guests meet and relax in the dining room and compare experiences of the day. Perhaps the best feature for both leisure and business travelers alike is the location of the Anchorage Inn which is in the French Quarter of the Historic District and within walking distance to the waterfront park, literally hundreds of restaurants, a wide variety of walking and horse drawn tours, the art museum and countless galleries, all the best shopping from antiques to clothing as well as being just minutes from the college areas, as well as the design and business districts.

A stay at the Anchorage in will provide guests with a range of conveniently located sites of interest in the heart of Charleston. Service is solicitous and friendly; rooms are clean and well maintained. Location, service and proximity to business, day and nightlife in Charleston make the Anchorage Inn a good value which earns a worthy 3 diamond *** rating.
